At The Tasty New Additions To Attract The Masses By Carolan Nathan Meet Me Caf6 is the product of Ronit Mory, and after six years of catering to a devoted breakfast and lunch clientele on North Robertson Avenue, she recently launched a Happy Hour and a gourmet sit down dinner on Friday and Saturday nights. What makes Meet Me Cafd special is Mory's attention to detail in the prcparalion and prc- sentation of cach cuisine, all of which can bc dcscribcd as Californian with a Mid-Eastern twist. The wholesome and deli- cious cuisine can bc enjoyed in a ca~qual atmos- phere eithcr on thc out- door patio or Bedouin tent style with comfortable, oversized couches. For starters, a platter of freshly bakcd bread with rosemary and black car- away secds (one of Ronit's Mum's Yemmeni specialties) arrives at thc table with a great platter of appetizers: Babaganush, a dip of smoky roasted egg- plant; Hummus, crcamy spiced chick peas; Sambusak, slightly fricd biscuit dough stuffed with a mdlangc of sautdcd spicy gar- banzo beans and onions; Falafel, balls of deep tried dough cncasing a luscious mix of lentils with parsley; and Tahini, an oily paste made from crushed sesamc seeds, that is accompanied by fresh salad pickings, black olivcs, and vine leaves. Evcrything on the mcnu is made-to-order, making it a (lining experiencc to be shared with fricnds or that special someone. A selection of entrees includes the delicate Chilean Sea Bass atop sautded garlic spinach and steamed veggles. For Chicken Diahlo, Mory sautd's chicken breast alongside roast- ed bell peppers and spices with jalapeno pepper, and serves it all with Majadra rice. In addition, a well-seared Ahi Tuna comes with mashcd potatoes and topped with a honey balsamic sauce, and her Moroccan style grilled Salmon is cooked with a spicy cilantro dressing. Be sure to request fluffy couscous dotted with raisins and pine nuts - it is always a great side dish! Breaklast and lunch at Meet Me Caf6 is a unique cxpe,'lence as well. Specials such as Shakshouka, a dish originating Tunisia but now popular in Israel, is prepared by making 2 eggs sunny-side up while cooked in toma- to garlic sauce and served with an Israeli salad. Equally popular is the Mellawah, a I{)-inch round liar-layered, croissant-style bread, served in several different and deli- cious ways. There are also various kinds of bagels and cream cheeses to choose from, burgers and sandwiches which are served on the specialty anise rosemary rolls, as well as, a grand selection of fresh salads, The courteous staff at Meet Me Cafd are always happy to explain the various dishes and are very helpful when it comes to order- ing. Keep in mind that portions are large, so take a hearty appetite with you! Happy hour begins on Wednesday and Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and features 2 for 1 drink specials including Sangria, beer, a small selection of wines and exciting new appetizers from around the world. Ones to mention arc the Hot Cigars which are made of Filo dough stuffed with generous portions of spicy beef; and the Goat Cheese dish. Meet Me Cafd is appropriately named being that it is a great place for friends to meet and enjoy the warm, inviting ambiance. In addition, one Wednesday afternoon each month, Mory invites children ages 5 to 15 who are battling cancer to a party at the cafe, Here they can enjoy food, drinks, dessert, and donated toys in a loving, caring atmosphere.
