spo BHHS Alumnus Drafted By Rams Kline Thrilled To Join Super Bowl Champions. By Steven Herbert Former Beverly Hills High School standout Andrew Kline was selected in the sev- enth round of Sunday's NFL draft by the Super Bowl champion St. Louis Rams. the firs! former Norman selected since 1990. [The Rams have] a great offensive line already and I just want to come in and contribute and do whatever I can to help the team." A 6-foot-2, 300-pound guard, Kline played collegiately at San Diego State, starting his final three seasons and was named an All-Mountain West Conference second-team selection in 1999. "He is a player that we kind of got on to in the past week or two," St. Louis coach Mike Martz told reporters at the team's Earth City, Mo. headquarters. "He is a really physical guard that we like." Kline, 23, graduated from BHHS in 1995, where he also competed in the shot put. Offensive lineman Rick Cunningham was the last former BHHS player chosen before Kline. He was selected by Indianapolis in the fourth round of the 1990 draft and went on to play eight seasons in the NFL. SPORTSWIRE Volleyball Winning Streak Continues Chris Gagan had 12 kills, Billy Smyth 11 and Fouad Malamed 10 as Beverly Hills High School defeated Hawthorne 15- I !, ! 5-6, i 5-13 Thursday at the Swim-Gym to remain undefeated in Ocean League volleyball play. Tal Hassid had a season-high 15 digs as the Normans improved to l I-0. Beverly Hills has won 28 of its last 29 games. High School Softball Marie Defais, Breeanna Hutchins and Kelli Serden each had two hits as Beverly Hills defeated Morningside 18-1 Friday in an Ocean League game at La Cienega Park shortened to 4 I/2 innings because of the 10-run rule. High School Track Anastasia Drannikova won the 1,600 and 3,200 meters and Katrina Smith the 100 and 200 as Beverly Hills defeated Hawthorne, 89-38, in a Bay League meet Thursday at Hawthorne. Lauren Brown (400), Dejah Judelson (100 high hurdles), Sharon Pearlman (high jump) Courtney Ray (triple jump) were the other individual event winners for lhe Normans (5-2, 4-2). Haben Hagos won the high jump and triple jump and finished second in the long jump as Beverly Hills defeated Hawthorne 89-46 in the boys' meet. Ramtin Mahgerefteh won the 1,600 and 3,200 and Ben Oh the 1 l0 high hurdles and 300 intermediate hurdles as the Normans improved to 4-3, 3-3. David Housman (shot put), Andrew Maizel (pole vault) and Jibril Raymo (400) were Beverly Hills' other individual event winners. Pansing Singhaseni fired a one-under par 35 as Beverly Hills defeated West Torrance 198-214. in an Ocean League match at Encino Golf Course April 6. Michael Share's five-over par 41 helped the Normans (3-9.3-7) to a 209-215 victory over the Warriors April 4 at Alondra Golf Course.
