people00" Gabe Macht: A Rising Star to Watch Local graduate makes his mark as an up-and-coming actor. by Michele Lu Gabriel Macht was born hz tile Bronr, New York atul moved to Bever(v Hills at tile age of 5: He attended Beverly ,Tsta and graduated front Beverly High in 1990. Dgring the summer of his junior in a pre-&apos;college drama program at Carnegie Mellon. After graduating from high school Macht was accepted m the prestigious Carnegie Mellon School of Drama, a four--rear conservam o, acting program. Macht has a series-regular role on "The Others", the new drama series from NBC SttMios, in association with DreamWorks Television. He recently appeared opposite Jennifer l_xn'e Hewitt in the ABC made-for-TV movie "Audrey Hepburn" playing legendao' actor William Holden. Q: How did you break into the ,:ncr- tainment industry'? I saw how the 3 cre making people feel good and laugh I locd lle a it felt to make my family and friends respond to what I was doing when I was acting out the parts I had seen in the musicals. I like it when people arc laugh- ing. It makes me teel good. So when peo- pie ask me why I love to act, I say because I see a big smile or grin on someone's face. I like people to let go for a while. Q: What kind of roles do you find appealing'? had a iiaercurial essence. He was so play- ful and passionate. I love playing that kind of character. Q: What is your ultimate dream rolc? A: (Laughing) A modem day version of Mercutio. I like it when people are laughing. It makes me feel good. My role on "The Others" is the closest to my being stereo- typed. But m general, I play ,3 whole. wide spectrum of roles/characters. Q: What is your favorite role thus far? A: My favorite role was in a colle,,e production of "Romeo and Juliet." I played tile character, Mercutio. He had such ighs and lows in his character. He Q: What kind of feedback are you receiving fi)r the show. "1" hcrs" ? A: Wc are getting good feedback. NBC is enthusiastic about the show and it seems thai the audience likes it. It is the highest rated show in its time slot in 2 years for NBC. Hopefully, it will be picked up for another year. And if the show isn't picked up, there is enough tal- ent on the show for people to go onto other things.
