BHUSD Administrative Proposal l read your article in the March 23-29 Beverly Hills Weekly about the school board ("Can't We All Get Along?"). I was hoping to read an article that sum- marized an important meeting where major changes to curriculum were pre- sented. What I got instead was a two- page rambler about board member per- sonalities and fights that left me con- fused about what happened at the meet- ing and wondering why you chose to " write the article that you did. You say in your article that in order to "understand the current conflict, one has to fully appreciate the varied personali- ties that make up the current Board of Education." Then you tell us gushingly that Gerald has lots of celebrity clients willing to pay big bucks for his advice and that Barry Brucker once played on the Beverly High water polo team and recognizes that a synagogue is different from a public school. But, what about the other Board members? Nothing worth mentioning? Are we supposed to infer that because Gerald is such a smart guy and Barry is such a nice guy they obviously trump whatever anyone else has to say? I have a suggestion for you. If you are going to litter our front lawns with your newspaper in the name of the First USNAPSHOT Amendment, then give us an idea of what your point of view is. To paraphrase from one of my favorite movies, "Planes, Trains and Automobiles", next time you're telling a story, have a point. It makes it so much more interesting to the reader. John Millan Beverly Hills BHUSD Adminisb'ative Proposal I was at Tuesday's Board of Education meeting and watched the most important parts of Wednesday's continuations on tape. However, I strongly disagree with your contentions. Your quasi-factual article failed to mention the circum- stances that brought on Ms. Maas' speech. You completely ignore the trou- ble and torment that she went through last year with the "Board Majority" who tried to ruin her with made up scandals and finger pointing, all committed by Mr. Lunn, Mr. Brucker, and the third member of the "clatch". Your article SHOULD HAVE BEEN about the cur- riculum situations that drove the citizens of Beverly Hills to the Board Meeting. Instead it was devoted simply to trashing the reputation of one board member and boosting that of two others. Please fac- tually report your stories, and in the future obtain quotes and information from all sides, rather than the sides that you, editor, solely prefer. Name Withheld by Request Beverly Hills BHUSD Administrative Proposal I was shocked to witness Virginia Maas' brutal and personal attack on fel- low board members. Her vicious tone and slanderous statements set the entire board ten steps backwards. I don't know how both Gerald Lunn and Barry Brucker kept their cool by calmly refuting each of Maas' slanderous comments and not engaging in her destructive dialogue. If she were a student at our schools, she would have been given detention. J. Sklar Beverly Hills BHUSD Administrative Proposal Kudos to Barry Brucker for having shown the initiative to call the Palos Verdes School District to discuss with them their handling of the State's recent Language Arts recommendations. Our Board's decision on such a "hot button" issue should not he made in haste. It should be an informed decision made on the basis of study, research, discussion, reflection, and shared information with I.ellafftonp19 2- Beverly Hills Weekly D OobE ?" issue 2s March ) - Apnl 5, 20m Bmmd ill= VmWIV Im.
