city0000 Grassroots Effort Continues to Fight Beverly Lane Project Residents gathered to count the returns of a city-wide mailer. By Shirin Danielpour Members of the Beverly Hills North Homeowners Association gathered last Friday afternoon to count the responses to their recent city- wide mailer concerning the Beverly Lane project. The homeowners' association claims the mailer went out to 6,000 households in which 90% of the responses received oppose a regional shopping mall/lO screen multiplex the- ater complex. "Beverly Hills has a unique image. Putting a multiplex the- ater will be a detriment to the commercial community and effect us adversely," Victor Bardack, president of the Beverly Hills _- North Homeowners Association, said. The residents fear increased traffic, noise, pollution and overdevelopment in their neighborhood. Bardack and others claim that they are not opposed to development as long as it falls within the city's general plan. The |lEBeverly Hills has a unique image. The developer, Lou Gonda, is a local resident who claims he wants to create a "family-gathering" place for residents. The developers were unavailable for comment. Although an EIR has not yet been completed, residents are adamant about the adverse effects of the project. proposal, however, exceeds the city's height limits and general plan. The homeowners' association feels the devel- opment will change the residential ambiance of the city.
