He might also play football for the school, which does not give football scholarships. Idaho State has offered quarterback Boomer Welles a scholarship. Paysinger said "it appears" Columbia will give offensive lineman Andy Clavin a spot on its team. Ivy League schools do not give athletic scholarships. t|We will be a much better-coached team. He cancelled scheduled visits to Oregon and Texas A & M after committing to Oregon State. Nash also visited the U.S. Military Academy and cancelled a scheduled trip to Colorado State. Monteilh, Nash and Allen will receive full athletic scholarships to attend their respective universities. The trio is expected to sign letters of intent Feb. 2, the national signing date. Players are not allowed to sign letters of intent before the national signing date, but may make non-binding verbal commitments earlier. Meanwhile, Paysinger also announced that his younger brother, former offensive line coach Donald Paysinger, will return to Beverly Hills as its offensive coordinator after serving as Santa Monica's coach the past two seasons. Donald Paysigner resigned as Santa Monica's coach after athletic administrators wanted him to make changes to his staff he deemed unacceptable, Carter Paysinger said. Jerome Swanson will return to Beverly Hills as the receivers coach after two sea- sons at Santa Monica. The two returnees will again give the Normans a seven-man staff. The team had a five-man staff the past two seasons. "We will be a much better-coached team," Carter Paysinger said. "You cannot give the players the best situation with a five-man staff." SPORTSWIRE If the Ocean League standings remain the same at the end of the second half of league play as they were at the end of the first, Beverly Hills High School's girls' basketball team will qualify for the Southern Section playoffs for only the second time since 1985. Beverly Hills (7-10) leads Culver City by one game in the race for the final auto- matic playoff spot. The two teams met Tuesday at the Swim-Gym in a game that concluded after the Beverly Hills Weekly's deadline. The Normans will play host to El Segundo Monday and Torrance Wednesday at the Swim-Gym. They will play at Leuzinger Friday. All three games are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. High School Basketball Beverly Hills High School will play host to Leuzinger Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Swim-Gym in an Ocean League boys' game. The Normans lost to Hawthorne, 65-54, Jan. 18 at the Swim Gym and 48-36 at Mira Costa Friday, falling to 4-14, 0-7 in league play.
